Chef Al has just been named Executive Chef of the New York style restaurant Rocco’s Uptown next to the Quadrangle between Cedar Springs Road and McKinney Avenue!

One of the most popular restaurant owners and food authorities who ever worked in Dallas, Al had previously served as Executive Chef of the Cunard Lines ships including the exclusive Sea Goddess. And in the mid-1990’s, he was the partner of the great chef Jean LaFont in LaFont’s Steak House which LaFont opened after years as Executive Chef of Universal Restaurants which included the Old Warsaw, Mario’s, and Les Saisons.

Since 1994, you have found Al at his cozy Preston Hollow restaurant called Natalie’s where some of his customers included H. Ross Perot, Ebby Halliday, Laura Bush, and such Dallas Cowboys as Ed “Too Tall” Jones.

Chef Al began his cooking career in Italy where he lived in the early 1980’s and worked as Executive Chef at several famous restaurants. Then in 1983, he joined the Cunard lines as its Executive Chef for such ships as the exclusive Sea Goddess which brought sublime luxury to Mediterranean cruises.

Fortunately for Dallas, he arrived in 1985, and until 2002, worked as Executive Chef at some of the city’s finest restaurants such as Lombardi’s, Bugatti’s, Monte Carlo in Addison, Bellini‚Äôs in Addison, Portofino, House of Italy and Modo Mio.

Then he became even more renowned by owning and operating the famous Ciro’s Restaurant and Club which featured Mediterranean cuisine, Egyptian iconography and belly dancers.

In 2006, Al went to Poland in Eastern Europe as a consultant to launch the Preferred Restaurant Group’s series of restaurants.

Finally, he emerged as one of the all-time best-known restaurateurs ever in Preston Hollow, partnering with Jean LaFont for LaFont Steakhouse and the Rendezvous. When LaFont retired, Al bought Natalie’s at Preston Royal, which he operated from 1994 to 2016.

You’ll find Rocco’s in a convenient space next to the Quadrangle just south of Turtle Creek and north of downtown. There’s parking all around on the street and in a one-level covered garage in the back.

JUST AS EXCITING–not only can you visit Rocco’s, Al will also bring his cuisine to you! His Amadeus Catering Service will transport his cuisine to your home for parties and your holiday dinner tables. You can order his Thanksgiving turkeys and all the trimmings, just as you did when he operated Natalie’s in Preston Hollow!
